Our Native Seed Library program as featured by Spectrum News 1 highlights how winter sowing and native gardening can support healthier landscapes across Northeast Ohio.

The story explores why many native Ohio plants need winter conditions to properly germinate and how our Native Seed Library, now in its second year, helps remove barriers for residents interested in planting natives. With expanded partnerships and increased demand, the program has grown to nine locations and more than 12,000 seed packets available to the public.

Spectrum News 1 also highlights how native plants provide critical habitat for pollinators and wildlife while improving stormwater management. Paired with free winter sowing workshops offered in partnership with Wild Ones Greater Cleveland and the Ohio EPA, the program equips residents with both the tools and knowledge needed to grow successful native gardens.
