Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis), a great ornamental tree, boasts showy lavender-pink flowers in spring that typically open in April, long before the foliage appears. Redbuds are in the Bean Family, producing flattened pods in the fall. They also have distinct heart-shaped leaves.
