CLEVELAND, OH (December 10, 2025) — Spice Field Kitchen and West Creek Conservancy are proud to announce their merger, uniting two mission-driven organizations to form a powerful new force for ecological restoration, food systems education, and community engagement across Northeast Ohio.

West Creek Conservancy, whose mission is to “restore, protect, and connect” natural spaces and communities, brings decades of leadership in land conservation and watershed restoration. Spice Field Kitchen, known for its innovative place-based education and culinary programming, has cultivated deep roots in food literacy, cultural storytelling, and sustainable agriculture.

“This merger is a natural evolution of our shared values,” said Steven Baker, former CEO of Spice Field Kitchen, now Director of Education for West Creek Conservancy, “Together, we’re building a unified organization that honors the legacy of both partners while expanding our capacity to serve communities, steward ecosystems, and inspire the next generation of changemakers.”

“Our partnership strengthens the foundation of what we’ve spent years building,” said Derek Schafer, Executive Director of West Creek Conservancy. “By bringing together land conservation, ecological restoration, and hands-on food education, we’re deepening our impact to ensure that more people benefit from healthy landscapes and connected communities.”

The newly merged organization will continue all existing programs under a unified strategic vision, with plans to expand educational offerings, deepen community partnerships, and increase access to green spaces and food education initiatives. Stakeholders, donors, and community members can expect a seamless transition and strengthened impact.

Supporters of Spice Field Kitchen can rest assured that its mission will not only continue—it will be amplified. The merger allows for greater reach, shared resources, and a more resilient platform for long-term sustainability and innovation.
