Green Infrastructure Cleanup

Join us for a hands-on volunteer day helping improve the health and function of a green infrastructure site! We’ll be clearing and sorting fist-sized rocks from a swale and removing invasive weeds.
This is a great opportunity to learn how green infrastructure helps manage stormwater and improve water quality. As we work, you’ll gain insight into how green infrastructures function and why regular maintenance is critical to keeping these systems healthy and effective.
The event will run for 6 hours, and volunteers are welcome to join for as much time as they’d like. The work is physically demanding–sitting on the ground and hand picking through rocks and soil–we recommend coming for a 2-hour shift, but shorter or longer stays are welcome. Come when you can and contribute at your own pace!
What to Expect:
- Park in either lot or on the street
- Moving rocks and clearing debris from the swale
- Pulling weeds and helping maintain native plants in the rain garden
- Learning about stormwater management and rain garden ecology
- Working outdoors alongside fellow community members to improve local habitat
What to Bring:
- Water bottle
- Closed-toe shoes or boots
- Work gloves (if you have them)
- Sun protection and weather-appropriate clothing
