Project Summary
The Standing Rock Farms Conservation Easement in Lake County embodies the unique conservation strategy that is central to West Creek Conservancy’s roots – working with various stakeholders to piece together several parcels over the course of numerous acquisitions to establish a large, connected corridor of protected land.
In 2024, West Creek worked to facilitate consolidation and conservation of six contiguous parcels of land along 1.85 miles of Mill Creek, resulting in 204 acres of natural area in Madison Township being permanently protected with a conservation easement. This conserved acreage includes hemlock ravines, upland hardwood forests and multiple waterfalls.

Project Partners
The Lake County Soil & Water Conservation District, Lake Metroparks, and Standing Rock Farms were essential partners in successful conservation of the Standing Rock Farms Conservation Easement project area.
Outcomes and Benefits
Between the collaborative efforts of West Creek Conservancy and our partners, we have now successfully protected 91.25% of Mill Creek in Lake County. Only 0.35 miles (8.75%) of the stream channel remain unprotected in the county. Conservation of forested riparian areas around Mill Creek, a tributary to the Grand River, is essential for preserving the Grand River watershed’s exceptional water quality and aquatic biodiversity.
