Mill Creek Headwaters Restoration in Highland Hills

West Creek Conservancy, dba Mill Creek Watershed Partners, secured funding and commissioned EnviroScience to restore a degraded stretch of Mill Creek just downstream from the Highland Park Golf Course restoration.

This portion of the creek had 12 feet of eroding banks, a decommissioned bridge, floodplains to be reestablished, and a pond needed restored. This section of stream was eroding and sending mass amounts of sediment downstream. With the support of the City of Cleveland, Village of Highland Hills, and NEORSD, West Creek Conservancy conserved and restored the 10-acre property.

West Creek leveraged funding through the OhioEPA, which was matched by NEORSD, to stabilize the banks, connect the property’s wetlands to the stream and floodplain, and enhance the pond to filter out stormwater pollutants. The strategic engineering of both EnviroScience & GPD and construction of RiverReach helped us maximize the natural benefits of this section of Mill Creek.
