Project Summary
The West Creek Greenway – Camelot to Broadview project included the planning, design and construction of a 10-foot-wide, 0.4-mile all-purpose trail extending from Camelot Drive near West Creek Conservancy’s headquarters, east to Broadview Road/SR 176. The project also included construction of a 140-foot-long trail bridge spanning West Creek, creating a safe, accessible connection across the stream corridor and expanding public access to the West Creek Greenway.
This completed trail segment represents an important step toward the larger vision for the West Creek Greenway: a 20-mile natural public trail network that will ultimately connect the communities of Seven Hills, Parma, Brooklyn Heights and Independence to Cleveland Metroparks’ West Creek Reservation and to the Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. By filling this key gap between Camelot Drive and Broadview Road, the West Creek Greenway – Camelot to Broadview project improves neighborhood connectivity and advances a regional greenway system that will provide safe, scenic routes for walking, biking, running and other forms of non-motorized transportation and recreation.
The opening of the West Creek Greenway – Camelot to Broadview trail segment was celebrated by West Creek Conservancy, Cleveland Metroparks, and other key project partners in May 2026. As additional segments of the West Creek Greenway are developed over time, this trail network will connect residents to parks, neighborhoods, schools, businesses and a larger regional network of trails and greenways. In the immediate term, the West Creek Greenway – Camelot to Broadview project also strengthens the connection between West Creek Conservancy and the public that it serves, by improving public access to West Creek and West Creek Reservation, where West Creek Conservancy’s has its origins.
Project Partners
This project was led by Cleveland Metroparks and West Creek Conservancy, with support from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC), the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) and the City of Parma. Funding for the project was provided through the Federal Highway Administration’s Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program, administered by NOACA; OPWC’s Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Program; and ODOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program.
Expected Outcomes and Benefits
The completion of the West Creek Greenway – Camelot to Broadview trail segment provides an immediate public benefit by creating a safe, off-road trail connection from residential areas in the City of Parma to Broadview Road, a main commercial corridor. The new trail and bridge near West Creek’s headquarters will improve access to outdoor recreation, encourage active transportation, and expand opportunities for residents and visitors to experience West Creek Reservation and the West Creek corridor. As part of the larger West Creek Greenway vision, the project will also improve connectivity between residential neighborhoods and parks and trail systems, making it easier for people to move through the community without relying solely on vehicle travel.
In addition to its recreational and transportation benefits, the project supports long-term conservation and watershed stewardship goals by improving public access to the West Creek corridor while reinforcing the importance of protecting our region’s stream, floodplain and riparian resources. The trail creates a visible and accessible connection to the landscape, helping residents better understand and value West Creek as both a community asset and an important ecological resource.
Trail and greenway corridors take years to implement, especially with regard to land assembly. For this specific section of the West Creek Greenway, the first land was acquired in 2003 in partnership with the City of Parma and the Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Program. This parcel, along with five others to the south (connecting to W. Pleasant Valley) were added into the original lease with Cleveland Metroparks at the creation/dedication of West Creek Reservation. Incrementally, West Creek Conservancy continued to add land to the Reservation, and by 2018 had completed the final acquisition enabling this section of the West Creek Greenway to be possible.
Partnerships, patience and a long-term vision are requisites to get projects like this done.
