The Bird Family Bog Preserve Tour
October 9 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 amFree
In 2021, West Creek acquired one of the few extant peatland tamarack bogs in Ohio. The property is located in Portage County and has been referenced in scholarly studies of peatlands of Ohio for decades. The protection of the property has been a high priority and creates the potential for restoration of its hydrology.
This hike presents a rare opportunity to see the bog, which is surrounded by a wooded upland buffer and agricultural fields that will be converted to successional upland buffer, further enhancing the ecological functionality and diversity of the bog.
Location: The bog is not open to the public. The location exact location in Rootstown, OH will be included upon registration.
The hike is approximately 2 miles. This hike will have a moderate terrain and rubber knee-high boots are recommended.
This event is free, but registration is required. Please register at Eventbrite link below.
West Creek hosts an exciting array of hikes, meetings, and other events throughout the year. We invite you to hear guest speakers, explore new areas of northeast Ohio, and enjoy evenings of food and music for a good cause. Browse our calendar below for more information.
